Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 2026

The short version

Mute does not collect, store, or transmit any of your personal data. Everything you write, every setting you choose, every moment of quiet you track — it all stays on your device. We have no servers for your data. We have no analytics. We have no accounts and no login. We have no interest in your data.

Data Collection

Mute collects no personal data whatsoever. Specifically:

  • We do not collect your name, email, or contact information
  • We do not collect usage analytics or behavioral data
  • We do not use accounts, logins, or user identifiers
  • We do not collect device identifiers or fingerprints
  • We do not collect location data
  • We do not collect the content of your letters, voice notes, or vows
  • We do not collect information about your contacts

Data Storage

All data generated by Mute is stored locally on your device. This includes:

  • Your vow, quiet-period settings, and history
  • Letters and notes you write to yourself
  • Voice notes you record
  • The reminder photo you choose (kept in your device's photo library)
  • Your selection of apps to block, which stays in a local App Group

This data never leaves your device. There is no cloud sync, no backup to our servers, and no transmission of any kind.

Network Use

Mute is designed to work offline. The only network request the app makes is a read-only download of the daily quotes catalog from www.gomute.app/quotes.json. This request only downloads text; no data about you is sent — no identifiers, no content, nothing. We do not log or track who downloads it.

App Blocking (Screen Time)

Mute uses Apple's Screen Time / Family Controls framework to block distracting apps locally on your device. Your selection of which apps to block is stored in a local App Group and is handled entirely by iOS — that selection never leaves your device and is never visible to us.

Third-Party Services

Mute does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. We do not use Firebase, Mixpanel, Amplitude, the Facebook SDK, or any similar tools. The only external interaction is with Apple's App Store for purchases and subscriptions, which is handled entirely by Apple and subject to Apple's privacy policy.

Permissions

Mute may request the following device permissions, all used only for local functionality:

  • Screen Time / Family Controls — To block selected apps locally. Your selection stays on your device.
  • Photos— To let you choose a photo shown as a reminder when the urge hits. The photo remains in your device's local storage.
  • Microphone — To record voice notes. Recordings are saved locally and never transmitted.
  • Notifications — To provide optional local reminders. There is no push server; notifications are scheduled on your device.

Data Deletion

Since all data is stored locally on your device, deleting the Mute app permanently removes all associated data. There is nothing to request deletion of from us, because we never had your data to begin with.

Children's Privacy

Mute does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children under 13. The app stores all information locally on the user's device.

Changes to This Policy

If we ever change our privacy practices, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date above. Given our commitment to local-only data storage, we do not anticipate material changes to this policy.
